2023 Junior Travel Tryouts

WHAT:

·       Tryouts for the travel teams are optional. We have recreational teams available to all players in 5th-8th grade. The cost for tryouts is $20 to cover the expense of hiring independent evaluators.  Registration will close on Sunday June 5.

·       Those interested in being a member of the travel team need to understand the following differences between recreational teams and travel teams:

o   Travel team members must be committed to lacrosse for the spring season. No player can miss a practice or game unless there is an injury, illness, or one-time event like a dance recital, family wedding, school concert, etc.

o   Travel teams will practice twice a week, and have games both weekend days.

o   Travel teams play in the CONNY league which has teams from all over the CT coastline, the Westchester, NY area, and as far west as Danbury.

o   Travel team members are required to pay the base fee assigned to the junior and senior division registration, along with an additional “travel program fee”, which covers travel practice gear, extra jamborees, and the difference in cost for the level of referees required by CONNY. These costs are TBD.

WHO:

·       Per the WHGL Bylaws, only players who RESIDE in West Hartford and are current 5th-6th graders are eligible to tryout

·       No previous travel team member is guaranteed a spot on this year’s team. All players who wish to be considered for the team must attend tryouts

·       Junior Travel – Upcoming 5th or 6th grader

·       Senior Travel – Upcoming 7th or 8th grader

WHEN:

Junior Travel

·       Tryout #1: June 10 @ 6:30 – 8:00 on the Fenced Field at Hall (next to tennis courts).

·       Tryout #2: June 12 @ 11:00 – 12:30 on the Turf at Hall.

·       Tryout #3: (IF NEEDED) June 18 @ 11:00 – 12:30 on the Turf at Hall.

Additional Details:

·       Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to get your assigned pinnie.

·       Please bring cleats, goggles, mouth guard, stick, and a water bottle.

·       Returning travel players: DO NOT wear any travel lacrosse apparel.

·       Players should make every effort to attend BOTH the 1st and 2nd tryout. While anyone attending at least one tryout will be considered, it is STRONGLY encouraged that players attend both.

·       Once the team is announced, commitments will be required shortly thereafter.  If your daughter can’t commit to the announced practice times, that’s your opportunity to give up her spot for the next girl on the list.

·       Independent evaluators (with no children trying out) will be hired by the club to evaluate all players. After tryouts, the Travel Committee will meet to determine rosters based on tryout evaluations.

·       If your daughter is interested in trying out as a goalie, please note that on the registration so we can bring enough goalie equipment.  If she wants to play goalie and field, she will need to try out for both positions and will be told if they’ve made the team as a field player, a goalie, both or neither.
